Name: Nightbreeze
Age: 40 Moons
Gender: Tom
Alliance: EternalClan
Rank: Deputy
Outer Beauty: This is one of the simple categories to describe for the deputy. His fur is of simple color, design, length, and the works. Obviously with a prefix of Night he is black not a white cat, unless all of the sudden midnight blue cats have come into existance. Assuming they haven't, as my cat wouldn't be very open to the change anyway, Nightbreeze is a simple black cat. However he is not the darkest shade of black you have ever seen. Instead he is black enough to be considered a black cat, but besides that no matter how much he grooms himself he will always appear slighty dark brown in color. He hates it to no end, it makes him look like some mangy loner or rogue, not clean and proper as he loves to be. So his fur will always appear slick and glossy, unless he is returning from a battle, but never will he look completely black. His fur is slightly rough and a pain for grooming. He has a thick coat, though it isn't very long. Thus it has less room to move and more opportunity to tangle and roughen. Even when it is smooth it still has some of that rough texture at the touch.
Nightbreeze is a cat of battle, even though he may not look it. Many cats of EternalClan are by far taller than him, in fact he is one of the shorter cats in the Clan. Yet no one would dare get on this explosive cat's bad side not just because of his quick temper and easy annoyance, but also because of what is hidden under his thick pelt. Muscles, muscles, muscles and plenty of brain to go with it. He is stocky not short and push over like. No, he is meant for battle not stalking a scrawny mouse through the undergrowth. His legs are thick and hold plenty of power in them be it for kicking or leaping at or onto an opponent. He is not to be messed with as anyone can quickly find out from that almost constantly present scowl. Perhaps the reason he is so open to giving cats a tongue-lashing is because he knows that he will be able to back himself up. He lives and breathes to protect his Clan and home that is a simple unchanging fact.
As we have duly noted Nightbreeze is a fighter of small stature.. but a fighter nonetheless. Besides that his build also allows him to have superb balance, he could walk a tightrope and fight without loosing his equilibrium. So he is hard to push over and very literally is a down to earth cat. For that same reason he is less likely to use moves that bring him off the ground, even if his strong leg muscles probably wouldn't let him down. His fur is also thick protecting him from the cold while at the same time he can get very water-logged or overheated. Nightbreeze is also not the breeziest of cats, he can be light on his feet, but he must pay attention to only that because of his big paws and naturally heavy steps. One is always afraid of the night's eerily sounding breeze, same would have to be said about this Nightbreeze. He also is no hunter, in fact he will only go hunting with himself and that is not likely to change any time soon. Especially being the stubborn cat he is.
The deputy's eyes are rather ugly in color and placement to his black fur, yet in some way he pulls them off. To begin with his eyes are brown.. Yes brown, that muddy color everyone finds boring and unoriginal. There has never been a color more though badly of then brown, yet in averageness we tend to find more attraction. He is a plain offblack cat with plain muddy brown eyes, thus in some comfortably odd way he can be found handsome. In some way you could find that his eyes are of darker brown at the top and they slowly begin to lighten at the bottom. They don't give away his position in the night. They are also perfect for his patented glare, a thing that everyone seems to be given at least once in their time of knowing Nightbreeze. It is not a pleasant thing and often gives one the impression that in some way they had failed, even if Nightbreeze's opinion doesn't matter to them. (Which it should, but those darn full of themself, arrogant mousebrains ruin it.) These are the simple tones of Nightbreeze's eyes, simple muddy brown. For a simple cat that in some plain old way will blow you away.
As a cat that has been in his share of skirmishes and the likes, Nightbreeze has his own little collection of knicks and scars. On his right flank he has got a decent sized clawmark down it from a battle against MysteryClan. Besides that most of the rest of his scars don't stand out. Then you get to the face, there lies a scar that draws attention even more than that infamous glare. Going over his right eye starting from the tip of it all the way down to cover his nose and upper lip in a four-claw fashion. It is dark gray in coloration and has left him with a small lip tick. His upper lip flickers on occasion as though he were getting ready to open it to show his teeth in that dangerous way cats do. Don't worry he usually isn't going to do that, as long as you aren't messing with his routine and not an enemy. Otherwise you have been warned that it may not just be a tick making that lip twitch.
Inner Beauty: Nightbreeze gains mixed feelings from everyone. He is the Clan Deputy and yet he is impossible to deal with and according to most 'doesn't deal with problems.. especially his own.' With that note it is easy to find Nightbreeze stubborn, unapproachable, and peculiar. He has a routine and isn't scared if everyone knows it. He never has to deal with patrols because everyone has an assigned patrol for a certain time. If it has to be broken everyone in the Clan gets to enjoy a nice meltdown, which sadly is followed with a even more edgy than usual deputy. Why then with this inflexibilty did Chillstar choose him as deputy? Rather simply Nightbreeze gets the job done, his way may be rather eccentric, but the cats of EternalClan have to respect a cat that brings order and stability to their Clan. However, what would EternalClan do if faced with the chance of receiving Nightstar? Was making this peculiar cat a smart move by Chillstar?
I've never gotten this question before. Seriously though, never, I would know.. Why would you need to know? Ugh I guess I'll just have to get this over with, since you obviously have no ability of noticing when you've just asked a stupid question.Idiotic lump of mou-fine I'll answer the question! Well first off I've never been one for enjoying ridiculously pointless questions. Cats always tell me that I'm kind of uptight and unapproachable.. well at least that is what they look like when I approach. I'm a cat of ritual though, so you'd think they'd have learned by now if they want to avoid me they should just stay out of my way! I'm not going to track them down and I 'd rather enjoy it if you all just learned that my job is to deal with the smoothness of Clan life, not these pointless time wasting questions. Now if you'll get out of my way I won't have you doing apprentice chores for the next moon! I'm off schedule already.. mousebrained question..coming up on the wrong side..the nerve!
Nightbreeze is a cat of odd particulars. One of which has been with him since birth. He was born deaf in his right ear. There was no helping it, he was bound to become nervous when things were on that side soon enough. What if you were to be attacked from that side and you couldn't hear? Even when it is a Clanmate trying to be fun and loosen the tom up, their is no such thing. Fun is not only missing from his vocabulary, but this little thing pretty much fuels his nervousness. His prickliness is nothing more than a defense mechanism to give him the appearance of never being nervous. So most have learned, without his knowledge, that if he snaps a lot at a subject and continues to bring it up, he had a serious problem with it. Despite his minor issues with this one handicap, Nightbreeze can not imagine being able to use both his ears.
Now even bigger than his phobia is something that should be considered one in itself. Nightbreeze HATES change, change makes everything bad. Only bad can come of change in his eyes, so he spends all his energy working to stop the chance of it. All of his patrols are preordered, patrols are something that you must know. He won't order them that day or the night before, he will tell you once and you have basically been enlisted to spend the rest of your life performing those patrols until either you or Nightbreeze was to die. He has rituals for every day that must be followed, and it literally hurts him if he can't follow them. When patrols have to be doubled he has schedules for that, he tries to effectively chart every single thing that could possibly happen and come up with a plan. The only thing he seems incapable of working around is death or illness, which is most likely permanent or long lasting. If anything was to go awry Nightbreeze has famouse blow ups. He yowls and freaks, and seems oblivious until someone tells him that he needs to pick a new cat. Then for quite a while he will be even more edgy and spiteful than usual. He has even been known to storm into the medicine cat's den and demand for a direly ill cat to get out to patrol. Needless to say the medicine cat has to check up on the deputy quite a bit.
Nightbreeze is a very crass cat. Honest often to the point of rudeness. Most believe that the prickly deputy has no filter to what he says, he definetely doesn't have a bone of diplomacy in his body. He has opinions about everyone and he will tell anyone, but never has he been afraid to say what he thinks in front of them. In fact he is lucky that he was built and bred a fighter, otherwise he'd have been killed by now. Most find him cruel, cold, and overall a cat of stone heart. He could care less if he hurts your feelings, he is too selfish for that. Again it brings up the sanity of Moltenstar when he chose this cat. Well respected a warrior he may be, but most of EternalClan has their doubts in his frail leadership. He may rule with an iron fist and get the job done, but one big change and the entire Clan could collapse around them. At least that is what Nightbreeze has always feared.
As you may have figured by now Nightbreeze has no sense of humor and if you ever think that he is joking somehow you are quite simply wrong. No nonsense, that's what you could call him. Though the true reasons for this are just that he doesn't understand joking. Especially if that joking is sarcastic, so keep in mind whatever you say can and will be used against you. Nightbreeze can not stand apprentices or goof-offs, they don't work so why should he? EternalClan has to be a well-oiled machine or Nightbreeze would probably threaten to blow his top, no he would for sure. So if you have something clever to say, keep it to yourself.
Nightbreeze is a soldier and soldiers by definition are prim and proper. The slightest thing wrong as far as his organized self and plans could very much turn him into a raging lunatic. Some may also argue that prim and proper makes a gentleman, which would easily be met with laughter by anyone that knows Nightbreeze. He is too cold and aloof to be a gentleman, he would quickly step all over those in his care if it meant keeping his Clan working as it always had. So ladies keep in mind that when you talk to a cat that calls Nightbreeze prim and proper that they don't in the least bit mean gentlemanly. Leave that to a cat that's chivalrous, kind, and charismatic; all of which Nightbreeze is not.
Nightbreeze is basically a bomb waiting to go off.. No he's a bomb waiting to go off that is located on a pile of other bombs that are lined up using C4. In other words his temper is one for the ages and often used. The cats of EternalClan in fact have kindly made a list of his Annoyance levels strategically given code names as to warn others when they reach dangerous limits to Nightbreeze's temper level.
Level 1-Normal(AKA Grump): Often categorized by his general grumpy mood and lack of caring about one says. This is how he usually acts,in other words he is always in a grumpy mood of this kind unless something happens.
Level 2-Agitated(AKA Kit-Killer): If he is in this mood a cat should always remember to ward off other clanmates with a flick of there tail. In this mood Nightbreeze can often be huffy and quick to assign one to apprentice duties. Famously however this is the level he was on when he gave Frosteye, then Frostkit, the jagged scar that runs through his right eye that effectively blinded him. Usually this is the mood he enters after a schedule must be change because of a death and such, or just the mood he enters after a particularly annoying day sitting through annoying chats and what not.
Level 3-Pissed(AKA Fire Spitter): Give a look of fear to a Clanmate if he enters this stage and you can't tell them the code name, it may just save you too. This is the stage where he yowls and snarls and spits and insults. In other words he gives you the most fiery tongue-lashing that you may ever get. No one knows exactly when he crosses the line from Agitated to Pissed, not many cats feel comfortable talking about it anyway.
Level 4-Meltdown(AKA Run): Just yell run no need to be secretive at this point, in fact you should probably run, too. He won't notice or remember anyways. He'll be too busy literally having a break down of some sort. This is usually caused by a death or major change of schedule, which probably wouldn't be considered major to anyone but him. It's just best to stay clear and wait for him to get to Level 2 or until the medicine cat is called in. Though all the medicine cat does is call in his sister, Blacknight, the only one that seems to have the power to calm him enough to knock him out with poppy seeds.
Past: "Everything is determined, the beginning as well as the end, by forces over which we have no control.."
Nightkit was born to the average pair of Greyfur and Browntail on an average day in an average newleaf. His litter was tiny and only included himself and Blackkit, his sister. They were raised to love their Clan and always be loyal. Most of their kithood was spent tussling outside the nursery and debating the merits of having the leader or deputy as a mentor. They did those normal kit things in other words.
Blackkit and Nightkit were inseparable and they couldn’t bring themselves to go out and cause mischief unless they were together. What fun could they get from pranking cranky, old Crosseye if they didn’t have another to share it with. As picture perfect as this easy kithood was they often talked about how empty the nursery was with only the two of them in it. Waterfur finally gave birth to a litter of kits when the two were three and a half moons old. Blackkit and Nightkit spent the next two and half moons making sure that the kits of Waterfur’s litter would become the coolest playmates.
Watereye had given birth to a litter of three, two she-cats and one tom. Robinkit was the only male of the bunch and was named for the color of his eyes that matched that of a robin’s egg. He was soft-hearted and one of the most chivalrous cats that you could ever meet. Shadekit was quiet and often she tried her best to blend into the background, but she had one of the best senses of humor in all of the Clan. Dewkit however was just as spirited and mischievous as Blackkit and Nightkit.
Soon Robinkit, Shadekit, and Dewkit were old enough to play with Blackkit and Nightkit. The lot became the best of friends, but Blackkit was especially close with Shadekit and Nightkit would spend hours tumbling around the front of the nursery with Dewkit. Naturally these good times would have to come to an end, though the only cats that this change sucked for was the three younger kits. They were just reaching the age when they got especially antsy to be made apprentices and here Nightkit and Blackkit were leaving them to do just that.
"With a little talent and a lot of hard work.."
Nightpaw received Drytongue as his mentor and Blackpaw received Skyhigh. Drytongue was a harsh and demanding senior warrior, whom had been named for his scathing remarks. Nightpaw may have survived his kithood with never using foul tongues, but in his apprenticeship he learned every insult, jeer, and curse in the book. It was worth it though to learn fighting from a warrior that didn’t care to make his apprentices the best hunters. The leader at the time had thought that such a tiny cat would have no problem learning how to hunt, it was the ability to fight that he thought he would end up lacking. He was dead wrong with that assumption. Drytongue himself would later tell Nightbreeze that he was the keenest, lion-shaming fighter he had ever trained.
Blackpaw and Nightpaw would meet in the hollowed center of a secret tree every quarter moon to talk about things they would not otherwise dare to say in camp. Blackpaw informed Nightpaw here about what type of cat her mentor was. Skyhigh was a handsome blue-eyed silver tabby, who hunted with the prowess of a hawk. Blackpaw learned from him how to climb trees and wait for prey to come out, unsuspecting and slow. This hunting technique, according to Blackpaw, had been created by Skyhigh when he was just an apprentice. She was in awe of the sky-diving hunter.
After two and a half moons of hardcore training Blackpaw and Nightpaw were joined in the apprentice den by Shadepaw, Robinpaw, and Dewpaw. It was a happy reunion and again the band of cats became close and on the night the medicine cats went to their meeting the five apprentices would meet in the secret hollowed out tree. They would discuss their mentors and show each other techniques that were unique to their given mentors. It was also at one of the meetings that Blackpaw proclaimed that she was in love with Skyhigh, her mentor. Robinpaw looked on with a flash of silent horror. From that day on Nightpaw noticed that his friend spent every waking moment training to become the best hunter in all the Clans.
Nightpaw and Dewpaw also spent a lot of time strolling the forest just before sunhigh. Sometimes they would leap around each other and tussle like when they were kits and others she would talk to him in her hushed voice about life. If either of them missed the walk because they were out training they would wait at the edge of EternalClan’s territory for the other to join. He didn’t realize until his very last moment as an apprentice that he loved Dewpaw.
"We shall find the way our steps are meant to take us.."
Nightpaw became Nightbreeze and he was commemorated for his Strength and Intelligence. The breeze was given to him because somehow his leader still hoped he could make the short cat the hunter he believed he should be. Blackpaw became Blacknight and Nightbreeze watched as she made her way to her mentor with a look of pride and love. Their vigil was long, but it went fast with thoughts of love running through both of their minds.
Life continued almost the same as it previously had the only difference being the duties and the den. Blacknight spent much of her time with Skyhigh, but she would always come gushing about him when Nightbreeze joined her in the hollowed tree. Soon the two would become mates and Robinpaw never again came to their half moon meetings and eventually the meetings ended too.
Two and a half moons after Nightbreeze and Blacknight had been made warriors their three friends joined them. Robinpaw was named Robinfeather, Shadepaw became Shadefoot, and Dewpaw received the name Dewfrost. The day after they were made warriors Nightbreeze went out hunting in the morning. He had to spend some time thinking. Should he tell Dewfrost his feelings? Was now a good time? He thought so long and hard that he actually caught two nice looking mice. He walked slowly towards where Dewfrost would be waiting for him, but at the very last moment he decided against it. So he instead turned back towards camp.
When he arrived at camp his senses were shocked by what he found there. Warriors were yowling for any able-bodied cat to either stay and guard camp or hurry to the territory’s edge. Nightbreeze stood frozen to his spot and let the prey drop from his mouth, he took off towards the place that he and Dewfrost were supposed to meet. There he encountered the sight of a band of rogues battling his Clanmates. He leapt into battle and didn’t falter until he saw Dewfrost being trodded upon by the fighting rogues. The claws of an enemy sliced open half his cheek before Nightbreeze let out a furious yowl and ripped at the rogue with the fury of a LionClanner.
After the rogues were chased from EternalClan land, Nightbreeze helped carry Dewfrost’s body back to camp. There he found out what had happened. With his mouth full of prey and his right ear deaf he hadn’t been able to pick up the sound or scent of the rogue band that had been eyeing out Dewfrost. She had been surrounded when he was too far away to hear and sprung upon by a group of eight cats. Blacknight had been out hunting when she scented the rogues and had come to her aid. However two against eight was hardly a fair fight, Shadefoot joined the battle after that and Robinfeather had torn towards camp on his light feet to get help.
Dewfrost was dead by Shadefoot’s arrival and Blacknight’s throat had been torn at by a rogue until Shadefoot had leaped on top of him. Blacknight had looked as though she would die so the rogues had turned their efforts to Shadefoot whom would be dead by the time the patrol of warriors reached the fight. Robinfeather had arrived as well and had looked around desperately for those he had left behind. He had stood over Blacknight and fought off any cat that came near as he applied pressure to her gored throat. Nightbreeze was in shock at this point, he had changed his scheduled meet with Dewfrost just because he had been afraid of rejection.
Nightbreeze was changed after that day, he seemed panicky every time he changed a bit of his routine and he would snap at the smallest kit that dared stray to his right side. He had only been grumpy before, but now he was cold-hearted and angry almost all the time. He hated change, it was easy to tell. Blacknight woke up a half moon after the battle and found that her vocal cords were so damaged that she could only make the tiniest of sounds.
Nightbreeze poured his efforts into being the best warrior he could possibly be and despite his aversion to change he proved to be quite the warrior and a leader waiting to be given power. Nightbreeze trained two apprentices during this time that he did nothing, but threw himself into being a Clan cat. Thunderpaw his first apprentice was an easy-going tom who spent more time in the Elder’s den than he did outside of camp for his sarcastic tongue. Kindlepaw on the other hand was a sweet she-cat who was one of the easiest cats to train that Nightbreeze had ever seen.
"Soon learning that it is what's in the middle that truly counts."
An outbreak of greencough swept EternalClan and took the lives of three elders, Tinyfeet, and Skyhigh. Tinyfeet had been the deputy of the Clan and amongst the grief it was decided by the leader that it was time for Nightbreeze to gain some real power and responsibility. He was named deputy much to his surprise and the only reason he didn’t have a meltdown was because he spent the night of his election comforting his sister.
He hadn’t much liked Skyhigh, the warrior had spent more time out hunting after the battle than with Blacknight. It was as though the effort of having to care for someone more than oneself was too difficult for Skyhigh. So his death wasn’t much of a loss to Nightbreeze, but Blacknight was devastated.
Robinfeather came in later that night, as he did every night, and cried crocodile tears for the loss of Skyhigh. Nightbreeze left the two alone and expected that by this time next moon the two would be mates. It has been thirteen moons and the two still haven’t moved their relationship to the next level.
