Name:
Hornetstar
Age:
36 Moons (3 years)
Gender:
Tom
Alliance:
MysteryClan
Rank:
Leader
Outer Beauty:
Hornetstar is a rather odd-looking cat. Build-wise, he is short for his age. His legs are filled with lean muscle, in fact most of his body is nothing but muscle. His paws are too big for his legs, making him appear to be clumsy when trying to hunt. The tom's ears are just a bit too small for him, and pointed at the tips like a hornet's stinger. He only has about a quarter, maybe even half of a tail, due to an incident during his apprenticeship. Hornetstar hates this, for it only makes his balance worse, though that's not the main reason that its off. We'll get to that, however, later. Hornet's muzzle if full of sharp, dagger-like teeth, and in fact some of them stick out from his mouth. Yes, his build is not exactly pretty in any way. No, it doesn't matter. His eyes always appear to be narrowed in suspicion or anger, and although that's often what he's feeling, it makes him look like an ornery elder.
Color just might help our little friend out. Well, not really, but it's worth a shot. Hornetstar's pelt is rather boring, to be quite honest. All it is, really, is pitch black. Minus the gray battle scars, Hornet's pelt is blacker then the darkest sky. His pelt WOULD be beautiful, if he'd spend time grooming it and smoothing it out. Though it used to be sleek, now it's rather dull and unkempt, sticking up in places as if he hadn't groomed it for moons. That usually, though, is the case. Hornetstar's claws are the same, though he keeps those more well-kept then his own pelt. They're sharp at the tips and as black as his pelt, and are also Hornet's favorite weapon. A few of his underbelly hairs are gray and white, and one ear actually is completely white, though he was born with that. Seriously, his white ear stands out like the moon in the black sky, which is completely. Though it gives him a unique feature, it's not helpful in his overall appearance.
I guess I must've skipped eye color. Actually, I didn't. Hornet's eyes are actually rather beautiful, though it's hard to see their beauty when his eyes are forcefully narrowed. Really, you only see the yellow at first, because that's their main color. Looking closely, though, you can see an array of beautiful orange flecks, bringing his eyes out to look like a fire. If his eyes were wider, this would really be a stunning feature. Sadly, most cats don't look close enough to see it, thanks to the fact that Hornet is always looking like he's going to claw someone's ears off. So you see, there is a very beautiful feature about Hornetstar, and only those who are willing to look close enough can see it. Other then his eyes, Hornetstar has rather average features. His nose is black against a black muzzle, and long snowy white whiskers come from said muzzle. However, we still have one more feature about Hornetstar that really shouldn't be forgotten.
Hornetstar's front left paw is a completely mangled mess. He's lucky that he wasn't renamed to Deadfoot or Brokenclaw. His claws on that paw permanently remain out of their sheathe, though they are tangled and twisted about in one heaping mess. Even a bit of his bone is slightly jutting out, though it's difficult to see unless you're looking closely. His paw pad is ripped to shreds, and it hurts whenever he tries to walk on it. The worst part is the fact that his paw is completely twisted backwards. It's horrible to look at, and most cats wince from the sight of it. Hornetstar's balance is completely horrible just because of this little paw. Still, he manages to hunt rather well for his Clan, although his paw is broken beyond repair. It's an ugly sight, but he makes sure that no one judges him on it. It's clear by the way Hornet tries his hardest not to limp that he does his best to stay normal.
Inner Beauty:
Hornetstar, to begin with, is extremely controlling. He's a my way or the highway type of cat. The opinions of others don't matter much to him, and he even will dismiss his own deputy's advice at times. Things absolutely must go his way, and he becomes very frustrated when they don't. No, he's not one of those ambitious, power-hungry take over the forest leaders. He just wants things to be his way, for once. All Hornet wants is respect, and he feels that once others begin to take his ideas without question then he will receive it. Hornet believes that respect really only lies in obedience. So, he expects cats to listen to him without questioning his decisions without a second, and if they don't, then they don't believe in him. When his warriors question his methods, he tends to reprimand them. Hornet can't comprehend the fact that it's possible that he might not be right, he believes that others are always wrong, and his ways always make the most sense.
Here's Hornetstar on: Love. That's something that he doesn't believe in, at all. Thanks to his mother, telling him ever since he was a kit that love simply didn't exist, and thanks to a backstabbing she-cat of his past, Hornetstar thinks that love is, really, just a hoax. There's only one cat that he has an ounce of compassion for, and that's his little brother, Tidekit. The little kit means a lot to Hornetstar, though he doesn't show it. He feels as if the two of them are on the same boat in life. Hornet does his best to raise Tidekit differently then how he was raised, but doesn't realize that he's passing on his mother's views on love to Tidekit. Although Tidekit is very hyper and curious, Hornetstar doesn't mind at all. Normally, he hates kits. Tidekit is the one exception. Hornet would do anything for the young kitten, and many cats find it amusing that such a cold cat shows love for anyone, even a kit.
Hornetstar is completely devoted to his Clan. Although he would choose to save Tidekit over the Clan, if that choice ever came, he does care for his Clan. He'd allow himself to die before anyone else in the Clan. Hornet, though he doesn't respect their ideas, knows that he really does need his Clan in the long-run. They helped him through so much that he feels like he just couldn't not care for them. No, he doesn't feel as if he loves them, but he does care for them a lot. Love is an emotion reserved only for one. Other then these facts, there are a few not so dominant traits to Hornetstar. For example, he's slightly cold toward others, mainly those outside of his Clan. He wouldn't care if he saw a cat being harmed on the other side of the border, but he would jump in to help, just not as dedicated as he would if it were one of his own warriors.
Past:
Hornetkit:
The beautiful Raingaze hadn't known what to expect when she and her mate, Rockwind, decided to have kits. She was excited, yes, but there was something about the way Rockwind was acting. He didn't seem thrilled at all. In time we will learn that he indeed was not, but we'll get to that later. Anyway, Raingaze gave birth to two kittens one cold Leafbare night. One was an adorable young she-kit, with gray fur and white paws. The other, however, was a rather runtish young black tom with a white ear. Raingaze was absolutely devoted to them, almost more to them then her mate. Rockwind didn't feel the same. It was always Raingaze looking after the kits, and Rockwind's visits were always brief.
Frostkit, the she-cat, was like Hornetkit's protector. She kept him in line, helping to make sure no one judged her brother by his small size and uneven features. Hornetkit absolutely loved Frostkit, and would follow her everywhere. Frostkit was the same. The two were never apart, and were in fact closer then most siblings in the Clan. Some cats even envied their closeness, and would try to split them up, but to no avail. Their close friendship and bond was unbreakable. At night, while their mother slept, Hornetkit would talk to Frostkit about his dreams of proving others wrong, and about someday becoming leader of MysteryClan. Whenever bringing up those dreams, he promised to make her his deputy. Frostkit loved the idea.
Honestly, Hornetkit's kithood was very uneventful. It was just like any other cat's young days. Most of it he spent with Frostkit, trying to avoid the careful eyes of their mother as they got into mischief. Also, Hornetkit would try to follow Rockwind around. Rockwind didn't appreciate that at all, and would often scold Hornetkit for leaving the nursery and "causing trouble" with the warriors. Frostkit could comfort Hornet whenever this happened, but it honestly wasn't enough. Hornetkit didn't understand why his father didn't care for him, or Frostkit, or even his mother. One night he asked Raingaze, but she just smiled and shook her head, oblivious to it all. "Oh, your father is devoted to you and your sister. He just doesn't want to get in the way, so he just stands back at times." When Hornetkit told Frostkit this, they both agreed that their mother was wrong.
Hornetpaw:
Hornetpaw was made into an apprentice beside his sister. His mentor was a noble and strong warrior called Darkfall and, despite the tom's menacing name, the two got along very well. Frostpaw had Rockwind as a mentor, surprisingly enough. She was thrilled, Hornetpaw could tell, but Rockwind was not. Hornetpaw envied his sister. She had the chance to get to know their father. That was a chance he felt that he'd never get. Still, Darkfall was like a father figure for him. He was always kind and fair, and taught Hornetpaw skills that he doubted any other cat knew. At times he'd sneak out with Hornetpaw at night, not to train, just to walk and talk. Darkfall enjoyed the serenity of the night, and Hornetpaw enjoyed it, too.
Hornetpaw and Frostpaw often trained together, and he saw the way his father acted. He was very rough on poor Frostpaw, scolding her for the simplest things, and at times threatening to lash out at her. Hornetpaw was furious about this. Rockwind had no right to do this to Frostpaw. He was never in their lives, why join them now, only to make them worse? During one training session, Darkfall didn't join them. He spent the day with his mate and kits in the Nursery. It was just Rockwind, Hornetpaw, and Frostpaw. Rockwind was training them on hunting, and when Frostpaw scared a thrush away by mistake, Rockwind lunged right at her. That was when Hornetpaw lost it. He tackled the massive gray and black tom, clawing at him madly and biting enough to draw blood. Rockwind had been caught off-guard, but soon recieved the upper-paw again. As Hornetpaw turned to race off with Frostpaw, Rockwind gripped his tail in his jaws, and didn't let go. Hornetpaw tried to break free of his grasp, and suddenly he felt his father's teeth go completely through his tail. Hornetpaw screeched, pulling back as much as possible. Half of his tail was gone.
Rockwind demanded that neither Hornetpaw nor Frostpaw could tell anyone about what happened, or he'd cause Frostpaw unimaginable pain and suffering. Hornetpaw only obliged for the protection of his sister, though he never looked at his father the same again. The medicine cat managed to wrap his tail, and Hornetpaw really wasn't injured besides that fact. He was back and training again in less then a moon's time. Darkfall noticed that something was different; Hornetpaw was practically demanding that they train with Rockwind and Frostpaw, saying that he wanted to keep an eye on Frostpaw and observe her progress. Darkfall couldn't do anything else but believe him, until one night that the two snuck out again. Hornetpaw finally admitted to him that his father had ripped off his tail, and had been hurting Frostpaw. Hornet begged that Darkfall wouldn't do anything, and that he would keep it a secret. Though he knew that his mentor wasn't happy about it, Hornet trusted that he wouldn't.
Their apprenticeship went by. Darkfall kept a closer eye on Rockwind; Hornetpaw knew that he was simply dying to sink his teeth into his throat. Part of Hornetpaw wished that he would. It frightened him to think of how much pleasure it would bring him, to see his father bleeding at his or Darkfall's paws. He knew that day would never come, though. Still, it couldn't hurt to dream. After many long moons of cleaning out the elder den, hunting, assesments, and watching Rockwind, the day of Hornetpaw and Frostpaw's warrior ceremonies arrived. Hornetpaw was overjoyed. Surely, Frostpaw would be safe now. They had no reason to ever go near Rockwind again. On that day the two shared a smile, and they walked forward to recieve their warrior names...
Hornetsting:
Hornetpaw became Hornetsting and Frostpaw became Frostfoot. Their vigil was quiet and undisturbed, and when the sun finally rose and they could speak, Hornetsting let out a soft cry of joy. They were officially freed from Rockwind. He couldn't ever harm them again. Hornetsting made it his official duty that he watch over his sister, going with her on patrols and keeping a close eye on her when hunting. He honestly didn't believe that anything at all could go wrong. Moons went by peacefully. During that time, Hornetsting recieved his first apprentice; a beautiful young she-cat named Featherpaw. She was quiet and sensitive, not speaking up and always growing nervous when she felt that she made a mistake. Hornetsting admired her, for she was respectful, and actually a strong hunter.
Then, one day, something really did go wrong. Hornetsting hadn't been able to go with Frostfoot; Featherpaw and him were on a patrol with a few other warriors. He hadn't heard that Frostfoot was to go on patrol with Rockwind. When he returned to camp that night, his mother was completely breaking down. She and a few cats were surrounding a small shape. Hornetsting had journeyed over to the group, curious as to what could've gone wrong. Realization hit him just as he reached the group. Frostfoot. Terrified, Hornetsting pushed past the crowd, gazing down below them. Frostfoot lay in a broken pile, her legs completely twisted. Blood drifted from many different wounds, even in her mouth. Her whole right ear was completely torn off, and her gorgeous blue eyes were completely glazed over.
He knew right away what had happened. Rockwind had gotten to her. He'd killed her. But where was he? It was at that moment that Rockwind entered the camp, carrying in his jaws a large, dark brown cat. Hornetstring recognized him instantly. Darkfall. What had he done to Darkfall? His answer came instantly, however, as Rockwind tossed the tom's body aside like an old piece of prey. He stood tall, facing their leader, Yellowstar, with furious eyes. "You're pathetic, all of you!" he had spat. "This Clan is filled with low-lives, scavengers!" He turned to look at Hornetsting. "I did you all a favor by killing them." Hornetsting, furious, charged for his father. The two were locked in an unbreakable battle; no one else dared try to interfere. Hornet ignored the yowls of protest; he'd kill this piece of scum if it were the last thing he could do.
In the end, he did. Hornet stood tall, proud, at the sight of his father dying at his paws. That was when he felt the pain. An unbearable lightning bolt of fire shot through his paw and up his leg. Hornetstring let out a cry, falling to the ground with a sickening thump. His paw, it was completely and utterly destroyed. He vomited at the sight of it. Raingaze let out a horrified cry, coming to support her remaining kit. Hornetsting knew that she was heavily pregnant with his father's next litter, and he suddenly hated himself. His mother... he could tell by looking in her eyes that she wouldn't ever be the same again. In killing Rockwind, he'd lost the three most important cats in the world to him. It wasn't worth it.
Time went by. Hornetsting's paw never fully healed. Eventually, Featherpaw was ready to become a warrior. During that same ceremony, Yellowstar's deputy, Ivythorn, retired. Surprisingly enough, Hornetsting was named to be his next deputy. The whole Clan were in shock, but no one doubted Yellowstar's decision one bit. Hornetsting was the only one who, at the time, felt he wasn't ready. With Featherpaw, now a warrior named Featherfrost, no longer needing him, Hornetsting felt completely alone. Raingaze was a shell of her old self, but who could blame her. Her mate had killed two cats, one being their own daughter, and on the inside she died, too. Hornetsting did his best to help her, but Raingaze wouldn't speak. Her kits would be born any day, and she just couldn't say a word.
When Raingaze's kits were born, Hornetsting found himself tied up with another apprentice. This one was a hyperactive little tom named Bramblepaw. Hornet tried his best to juggle training Bramblepaw, be deputy, and check on his mother and brother, but that never worked out. Raingaze had only birthed one kit, since the other two were still-born. The little tom had blue-gray fur and revealed to have ocean-blue eyes when they finally opened. He was named Tidekit. Hornetsting didn't know what it was about the little tom, but he brought out the best in him. One thing was certain, Tidekit would never know his father. Hornetsting envied him for that.
Hornetsting would hear Raingaze whisper to Tidekit, always telling him that love did not exist. That it was just a myth, a fairytale, a kit-story. Hornetsting remembered hearing her say the same thing to him the day that Rockwind and Frostfoot died. He didn't want Tidekit to believe that, but part of him believed that his mother was true. He didn't try to question her beliefs. As his life continued to speed by, Hornetsting found himself wondering what being leader would bring him. Yellowstar was ill, and on his last life. He died the day Bramblepaw was named Bramblestripe. Hornetsting was now Hornetstar, leader of MysteryClan.
Yet with the gain of power, he lost his mother. Hornetstar knew that it would happen eventually, but he was still caught off-guard when a patrol returned to camp with news that his mother was found, drifting in the stream. Tidekit, at the age of four moons, had been devastated by the loss of his mother. Hornetstar made it his duty to take care of him, and that he did. Today, Tidekit is five moons old, and Hornetstar is trying his best to lead his Clan. Every day goes by, and not one of them does he not miss Frostfoot, Darkfall, and Raingaze. He's got only one cat left to love, and that is his little brother, Tidekit.
